This week’s theme is Special Catches that are engraved in our memory.
We kick off the Special Catches Week with 50+ perch pushing (or just missing) the magical 3KG mark.
March is typically the month when anglers request guided days for these balloon perch: HUGE PRE-SPAWN PERCHES.
And that happens to be exactly what our UK clients come for.
Pike may be our absolute favourite, but since we started competitive fishing in 2022, we also need to catch big perch and zander — so we’ve been focusing more on them as well.
For this story, we go back to March 2023. Marc from the UK stayed in our lodges, determined to hunt these record fish for several days.
Only big perch spark his interest, so the trip turned into a finesse‑fishing adventure: Ned Rig and Carolina Rig.
Marc and I had an incredible time. Every day we caught one or more 50+ perch. And this on all three lakes: Volkerak, Hollands Diep and Haringvliet.
But a 3KG perch is truly an exceptional record fish. Although some of our catches definitely deserved the label “BALLOON PERCH”, we ended at 2.815 KG.
That didn’t spoil the fun — every day delivered stunning catches!
